The Accompanists’ Guild of NSW, together with generous support from the Sydney
Conservatorium of Music, are excited to announce the second “David Miller Award”
for collaborative pianists. This award honours the outstanding achievements and
services that David Miller AM, one of Australia’s foremost collaborative pianists and
educators has given to the specialised discipline of accompaniment for many years.
The competition will consist of two rounds:
An unedited video recording made with an instrumentalist and singer (provided by
the contestant) to be submitted by the 27th August,comprising;
1. A movement from a sonata for piano and instrument of your choice
2. Two contrasting songs of your own choice
Three contestants will be chosen for the finals round and will be notified by the
The final will consist of a quick study performance in the morning, of a work sent out
a week earlier. The contestants will conduct a 10-minute open rehearsal followed by
a performance in front of the adjudicating panel.
We will provide the singer/instrumentalist for this section.
The second part will be a public performance given by the three finalists comprising
the whole sonata of which a movement was performed in the preliminary round and
two songs of their own choice. Scores must be provided for the adjudicators.
- The age limit is 28 years of age at the closing date of the applications,
- The winner will receive $4,000 and the two runners up $1,000 each.
