Melody Tsz Ching Chung

Melody is a kind-hearted and patient piano collaborator, who is always welcomed by kids and teenagers. Her collaborative experience began during her studies at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, as junior choir accompanist. During her years of postgraduate studies in Sydney, she has occasionally served as accompanist or performance coach at the Waverly College and the International Grammar School in an at call basis. She is confident in coaching a wide range of levels ranging from beginners, AMEB / ABRSM Grade 1 to Diplomas and the HSC syllabus.

After being awarded a Bachelor (Hons) Degree in piano from The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA) in 2012, Melody was awarded the Molly McAulay Memorial Scholarship, a full scholarship, to complete the Coursework Masters in piano performance at Sydney Conservatorium of Music, graduating in 2014. Since moving to Sydney in March 2013, Melody’s significant performances have included 6 solo recitals and 2 concerto performances in addition to a solo world premiere at the Hong Kong Arts Festival.

In Sydney, Melody has made public appearances in concerts organized by Wyvern Music Forestville, Theme and Variations, Macarthur Music Club, Learning Delights Book Club (Australia), Defence Housing Australia and Gourmet Traveller WINE. She has also often given volunteer performances at Quong Tart at Gallop House and the Redleaf Manor Nursing Home. In June 2014 she appeared as the soloist in the Ravel Piano Concerto in G with the Sydney Conservatorium Post-Graduate Conductor’s Orchestra and also Manuela de Falla Nights in the Garden of Spain with The Beecroft Orchestra. At the 2014 Hong Kong Arts Festival, Melody’s premiere performance of the solo piano suite by Ian Ng was ‘the most successful piece…begging to be heard again’ in the tribute concert ‘Images of Hong Kong’, as reviewed by The South China Morning Post.

Melody’s second Master degree (postgraduate research) in piano performance, thesis topic “‘The Haze of Notes’: Mapping the Influence of Ravel’s Miroirs on Carl Vine’s Second Piano Sonata” has been supervised by Dr. David Larkin, Dr. Rachel Campbell and A/Prof. Gerard Willems AM at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music – The University of Sydney. During this time Melody has been holder of the Stuart Piano Research Scholarship, and previously a number of prestigious scholarships overseas. Her latest public solo recital was broadcasted on Australia’s Fine Music Radio in November 2015. In April 2016, she was invited for a collaborative performance at the Shanghai Oriental Arts Center.
